Nice shot, Ellis. These locomotives were ex-E8Bs, but were converted to A units with strange cabs. They're called "Crandall Cabs" after (I think) the man who designed them.

Your right Joe, C&NW was in a commuter power crunch, so it purchased surplus Union Pacific E8B units and rebuilt them with cabs.

I wonder if EMD got the inspiration for the 3-window wide cabs from this? The ones that were on the SD60M's that UP & BN got before the 2-window cabs.
