The thick volume of smoke certainly makes this photo. Shay locomotives seem to have an abundance of smoke - which is not a bad thing!

And note that nod or tribute to days gone by: the barrel with the "Esso" label! Esso, Enco (some gas stations in Kentucky) and I don't recall how many others all became part of Exxon in the mid-70's. Photos like this one have made me add a trip to that part of the Mountain State to my bucket list!
