Back in the 1980's when I was a kid, I seem to recall hearing that oil companies were going to stop producing journal oil for solid bearing (friction bearings) trucks, because of the proliferation of roller bearings and the phase out of solid bearing trucks by the early 1990's. So, I was curious, and a quick search shows that at least CITGO still offers CITGO Railroad Car Journal Oil #9 for sale. I have often wondered what museums and even Simpson Timber Company were using as journal oil. Now I know.
