On E lead for Butte Yard, about 5 car-lengths E/b from (SSE of) Yard Office w/E slope of Timber Butte (el.6,314 ft. above msl) rising some 830 ft. above the main line was about a mile to the SSW. #E-80 was first-of the ES-2 70-ton steeplecab switcher pair, blt.-as CM&StP #10050 in July, 1916 (GE#5478) and re-#'d in Mar., 1939. Replaced-by #E-81 the following month, it will be relocated-to Deer Lodge and retired the following May. Rib-sided bay-window caboose #01812 was the 13th of the original 75 blt.@ the W Milwaukee carshops in July-Aug., 1939. The first digit will be replaced w/"99" for the upgraded Carscope system in the next month, and it will wind-up over in Elbe, WA as part-of a motel complex after the "embargo" of March, 1980. This combination would work 8+mi. W/b out to Silver Bow (Butte Yard was by M/p 1520) for interchange w/the UP as-well-as both the BA&P interchange @ Rocker (E/b from M/p 1525) and the freighthouse yard (¾-mi.ENE-of Colorado Jct.@ M/p 1522) and/or Montana Pole Co. W/b from the "new" (c.Feb., 1957) Butte depot (M/p 1521 - all on then-Rocky Mtn.Div.'s 4th "sub"). That #'s 105507-105706 series AAR type SA (account 14 in.w x 8 in.h hatch above floor in "A-end" for cleaning) stock car from Standard Steel Car Co. (1929) in the Rt.-background on the Hansen Meat Co. spur lead will be retired by Sept. following MILW's discontinuance of livestock tariffs. The 1.66% (compensated) 8¾-mi. ascent of Pipestone Pass' W slope began E/b from M/p 1515 @ Newcomb.
