I was there eight days ago to to see the Alabama and Drum. I noticed the SS United States also but I didn't go over to look at it. Glad to see you got this shot! A nice Birthday present for sure! Check out my photo of the GM&O rail station that I took. I also managed to catch the CG Rail ferry Mayan in port also.

Thanks for that "extra effort" there, Eric - well-worth it! First saw "United States" berthed @ pier on W side Manhattan waterfront along w/line-up of "Queens" (both "Mary" & "Elizabeth") as-well-as SS "France" all down E shore of the Hudson from heading S (W/b) on Jersey Turnpike from Holland Tunnel. Topped that w/a look forward to watch an E/b "Clocker" w/Tuscan & solid-stripe GG-1 wearing the big "Keystone" PRR herald centered on its fireman's side leading a long string of silver w/Tuscan red letterboad varnish. That was in third week of June, 1965 on-the-way to DC. Next saw "United States" berthed by SE Philly in the background of some scenes from the "Parking Wars" series on cable TV about two decades ago, and wondered what had happened-to that ship (was in nearly as bad condition as seen above).

The SS United States will be sunk as an underwater reef. She will go down carrying $37 trillion in US National Debt, which is 11,000 tons in $100 dollar bills.
