As I was going for my afternoon safari in the lion sanctuary in Gir National Park, I got lucky to spot YDM-4 with 5-6 carriages doing Amreli - Veraval passenger service. A heritage railroad route in Indian Railways and one of the last few metre gauge line in the country. This route passes through the heart of lion territory and many people have been lucky sighting lion prides roaming along the tracks. As metre gauge lines disappeared from India making way for broad gauge, YDM-4 also vanished with just few YDM-4 in service in few pockets of metre gauge route. As I finished my safari in the evening and coming back, the trackers in the park told me that a lioness was spotted close to the place where I stood to take this picture. It is being speculated that there are around 1000 Asiatic lions in Gir spread over nine districts of Gujarat state, which is the only home of the Asiatic lions.
