What a fascinating process. I'd like to see how they get the cables across the gorge to begin the process of pulling the bridge girders into place. Do they use a "shot line" and messengers like the Navy for refueling at sea? The blocks on the cables used during bridge re-construction look to be too heavy for workers to just drag across.

No ropes need to be pulled across the gorge to erect or dismantle the bridge. The wire ropes only run over the fixed pulley blocks on both sides of the bridge to the end of one third of the bridge.
