I don't ever recall seeing a white patch before, although as I look at your photo of ATSF 303 (Photo ID 841888) there is a gray patch in the same location. There is also a photo of the 303's other side with a same white patch (Photo ID 364314). May have been the result of some shop modification but one more familiar with Santa Fe's idiosyncrasies would have to shed further light. The passenger Fs looked great on freight and shots such as your's are priceless in that regard. Always think of the old RR beanery in Chillicothe from back when it was a division point.

It occurs to me that a fresh spray of silver paint might show up as *white* in an old photo, when it's really just fresh, clean silver paint that reflects the light hitting it much more than the weathered paint around it. Is this from a negative or a slide?

Neat photograph, I like that there are some stock cars at the front of the train, war bonnets and stock cars together is not something that I have ever seen.

I think xBNSFer is onto something there. The roof and ends look white also. And, as Troy says, interesting to see the stock cars trailing power accustomed to first class equipment. Bet that train sounded good going up Edelstein.

To xBNSFr. It’s a slide. I’m noticed this difference in other Warbonnet slides, though not as pronounced. Joe McMillan, where are you?
