One of the SP units was rebuilt into the TTCI's Track Loading Vehicle. In the following photograph the original 6-axle trucks were replaced by 4-axle trucks to provide a wider span between the trucks for the special test bogie located at the center. This test axle could be manipulated to create lateral stress on the track structure to test its strength.
