This is my hometown. I grew up in Quitman through the sixties and seventies, graduating at the local high school in '77. This used to be a GM&O route from Mobile, Alabama. Then it became Illinois Central Gulf, if memory serves me correctly. It was the site of a big derailment of aluminum ore cars out of Mobile that brought in the GM&O wreck cranes and crews. There were several tracks here at one time that were used for switching out the local lumber yard, now long gone. Where you see the bay window, there was a chalk board outside with the GM&O herald and "Route of the Rebel" that posted train times. In the bay window, I remember seeing a genuine Edison telegraph key and there was a semaphore signal just outside the bay windows that stood for many years. Thank you for the photographs and memories.
