No better confirmation of the fact that the UP's own LA to Chicago route is inferior than the fact that they still use these SP (who needed trackage rights to reach Chicago) legacy KC to Chicago trackage rights (and pay for the privilege) as opposed to sending traffic via UP's own route through Council Bluffs, IA and the ex-C&NW.
