I first wondered "What's that red nose doing this close to New York?" The size of the lettering says Soo Line, and then "Oh yeah, CP/SOO seem to have frequently pooled with NYSW in this era, and the Susquehanna engine terminal is around here..." That shows how heavily photographed this area is, and how well-documented the routes leading to it are, that I can figure that out without having been there.

@Triplex: correct on all counts. That is a SOO SD40 at the NYS&W service facility. CP/SOO family power was common on NYS&W through the 90s.

It's all thanks to photographers like John/Elena Durant, Ralph Bonanno, Lester Zmudinski... at this location and probably more importantly Sam Botts, Tom Beckett, Doug Lilly... on the Southern Tier and elsewhere that I can feel any familiarity.
