Why is every fourth tie a different color? Is it wood?

Hi Dale, they're probably corten steel. The curve is on a 1% grade. I guess there are some torsional and tensile forces the concrete ties aren't the best for. There might be a resonance or harmonic reason to do every fifth tie instead of the whole curve.
