Curious. You know the famous 'step' in the hood on -7s? The U28-to-30B has a similar step farther forward and in reverse.

Now I can't tell if it's an actual feature of the locomotive or just a shadow. I mean behind the vents behind the cab and ahead of the square SCL/L&N logo.

I think it is shadow of pole. Does indeed resemble step in hood.
