Interesting write-up on this weapon. The museum looks to be well maintained with a lot of displays. Why is it not open to the public?

Actually artillery pieces caliber denotes length of barrel vs bore. In this case it is a a 283MM bore 76 caliber barrel being the barrel is 76 times greater than the bore. IE the German 6x88 was a 6 inch bore with a 88 caliber meaning the barrel was 44 feet long.

Its on base and attached to a training facility. Those reasons make it a little tricky to have the public in. Its an amazing collection though.
