They do it because they get taxed higher for every mile of double track. Yet then we build super highways for trucks to run on at a subsidized rate. If we dropped the property taxes on the railroads and only taxed them on revenues much of the lost rails would still exist. 1 of these days that is going to come back and haunt us.

Where was RS tower?

@cowensub, RS Tower is the location where it went from double to single track. Those track use to be part of the Bridgeport Subdivision before being consolidated into the Mountain Subdivision. It’s located in a community called Rosemont, just west of Flemington.

Thanks for the response. So this is quite a bit of double track being removed.
