As much as I love trains and love to ride them, I don't know how they continue to stay in business with all the late arrivals. I assume the passengers love trains like I do and put up with the lateness of passenger service.

Well, there are some who are not riding it the entire way but rather utilizing Amtrak's ability to carry passengers from small town to small town (such as, say, Garden City KS to Gallup NM), where flying is a major hassle and expensive. Plus, there are some who don't fly ... The "Chief" (and several other trains) seem to always have some Mennonites (often confused with the Amish) onboard, for example.
