Yeah, the boxcar is a spacer car wired with MU cables. It was due to weight restrictions over one of the bridges on the line. Used to be a common practice on Southern owned shortlines.

I thought so. I saw a picture in a book years ago with this type set up on the Southern, only it was an old coach and RS3s.
