What is with all the Blue things below each engine, diapers? And what is the purpose of the box and cables alongside 7600? Defibrillator? Curious ...

CN 7600 looks like it was a former GP 38-2 ( possibly the 7500s). Look at the top hatch over the engine. They covered the exhaust stack holes. The former paper air filter box is now the trubo exhaust. Also, CN's regular normal GP 38-2s have the split air tanks on each side. It looks like they are doing some sort of load tests (?) with the grey wires going to what looks like a dynamic brake grid (perhaps from a retired SD 50F or SD 60F ?). The green looks a bit brighter that the original freight green which was closer to an olive type green. Another thing to look at is the radiator grills. They quite do not match the GP 40-2 (late) radiator grills and notice the added third fan. As to what kind of engine is in the locomotive, my guess is that they converted it into a 16- 645E3 (turbo charged) from a 16-645E (non turbo charged) engine or a 12- 710 G3 engine. The 3 at the end of the model designation means that it is turbocharged. The steps are still the originals from that Canadian GMD style that was used in the 1960s, 1970s, and early 1980s. GMD built locomotives has the plain traction motor blower bulge. The US EMD locomotives have 2 horizontal ribs.

That is an adaptation of the pre-1962 CNR paint scheme except the green is considerably lighter.

I saw these two last week, I think it's being load tested. There are many interesting Locomotives at Progress, including some UP Painted, but tagged as " EMD" Demo units. The Radiator Grills look much like an old SD18

I know Google Street View shows several CN 4700 class GPs at Progressive undergoing full rebuilds in Aug of 19, this might be related to that effort. It does look like a new radiator section matching this one can be seen in the background.

Unit is ex 4702 and from this angle looks like rebuilt to a quasi GP 40 type unit. Speculation is a 710 engine of some type ( unknown number of cylinders)with a turbo exhaust coming out of the old Air Filter box.

Thanks for the shot Steve. Regardless of what 'it is'.... I still really like the old-style decaling.

Kudos to CN for finally launching heritage units, but this is an awful start. The 1950s green and gold livery is more olive and mustard than John Deere. Also, the "Canadian National" lettering should be in black, not green. Hopefully there will be another green/gold unit with more accurate colours.
