Interesting picture. It must be Port tower's last year with the imminent double-tracking. What I cannot figure is the pedestal for eastward movement on No.4 track (visible just beyond the tower bay). Nos. 1 and 2 tracks (on the left) were the ones retained and No. 4 track would normally have had a low home (dwarf) signal for eastward movement, so what is the high signal doing there? A great view of the old mainline and the interlocking station that was typical of those that populated the line every ten or fifteen miles until the line was double (two main) tracked.
