Just in case anyone is wondering why it's called IHB Blue Island Yard, but is in Riverdale, here's why. More traffic comes in through the west, through the city of Blue Island, hence the name. For many years the area where the yard is, was unincorporated. Since it was unincorporated, police coverage was done by the county. Due to damage, vandalism and lots of tagging, Indiana Harbor Belt (IHB) own the yard. In order to get better protection they became part of Riverdale. Now the Riverdale Police cover it. While the city only covers parts of it, it patrols the entire yard, and the same is true for the CSX Barr Yard north of this location.
