In 1976 the entity that operated the streetcars was New Orleans Public Service, Inc. ("NOPSI"), not the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority ("NORTA"). A clue is the PS on the right (front) end; that's Public Service. Subsequently the Regional Transit Authority was created, and took the streetcars (and buses) from NOPSI, with its remaining electric and gas utilities becoming Entergy New Orleans. Anyway, here the car has reached the downtown / downriver end of its route, turning from Carondelet St. onto Canal St. After one block it will turn again, back onto St. Charles Ave. to head back uptown / upriver. This is one of the 1923-24 Perley Thomas cars, and it's probably looking much the same today, either operating or in line for a rebuild. It's shown operating in 2007 at https://www.railpictures.net/photo/329783/.
