RhB #108. 114 years old and in magnificent condition. Whoever maintains her is doing a fantastic job!

Thats one HANSOME little locomotive. Perfectly proportioned. I am curious about what appears to be coal in plastic bags. Are they actually using coal, or are those bags of wood pellets ?

Yes, the RhB is using coal delivered in plastic bags from Wales/United Kingdom. The so called "Welsh Dry Steam Coal", a semi-smokeless fuel which is softer than Anthracite and burns cleaner than House Coal. SBB Historic for example, is using the same coal, but delivered in large about 1 ton bags.

THANK YOU, George. I would guess each bag is probably about 25 kilos for ease of handling ? Its hard to imagine a "one ton bag."

The about 1 ton bags are not loaded onto the tender, but with a crane lifted over the tender and then emptied. This is also how it is done in South Africa at Ceres Rail. https://www.railpictures.net/photo/704425/

You've captured the winter trifecta: Snow, Steam, and Switzerland! I enjoy the variety you share here. Documenting as well as capturing so many breathtaking images. Keep at it, I'll keep watching! Be safe out there.
