Not much traffic on this line even today. If you can’t delay stuff in Rice yard why bother? The Palmetto seems to do pretty well. I photographed it a fair bit in Yemassee. I like the B&Ws.

Yes, Sid, this line was a disappointment as far as traffic levels. I moved to Charleston in January 1977, and expected to see lots of trains. If I recall, there were three pairs of Amtrak trains, all at night except the nb Palmetto. Auto-Trains were at night, as were the UPS intermodals. There was a single nb freight in the afternoon that I caught fairly often, and a few locals, but most freights were at night. Traffic on Southern was very light, and GP38s were so dominant that I rarely even went over that way.
