These also pushed the output of the 20 cylinder 645 engine to 4,200hp, which EMD backed off of when they introduced the "Dash 2" line instead. This output wasn't topped by EMD until SD75s and "late" SD70MACs (and subsequent SD70 Series locomotives) with 4,300hp in the mid-1990s.
