That's an unusual paint scheme on 6236, along with the lowered headlights. Was this unique to this unit or if not, how many other units received this paint scheme? GREAT shot, BTW!

BN & BNSF were really great in keeping much of their elderly fleet running well past the year 2000. It was always fun to watch the Catoosa / Claremore, OK local back then. Since it was a short run out of Tulsa, you would see the old 1st generation engines from BN and SF running. One time I really wish I had a camera while at work. I found the local with about 6 or 7 blue and yellow SF units with models ranging from GP7U, GP 30 & 35's. It was a sight to behold, and except for the BNSF stencil below the cabs, you would have thought you had time warped to the SF in the 1970's.

To answer the question concerning the paint job, I don't remember the time period any more, however, as I recall BN had a number of fatal road crossing accidents over a short period. It was thought by the "lawyers" that maybe a more visible paint job was the answer. There were a number of units painted as we called them in "white face" as well as the orange tiger stripe. Most of them were SD 40's, some Geeps and this one SD 9.

I am afraid that I cannot help you there with the BN scheme.

I don't think i've ever seen a high hood unit painted in this late BN scheme, interesting

By the way. Having been a C&S / Bn Engineer for 20 years I can tell you that this is not Denver. Look at the water / cranes and bridges in the background. I worked Denver / Cheyenne / Trinidad / Casper and Gillette and every where in between including the yards / beer run and industries. Maybe a mistaken photo.
