Sad sight but inevitable.

The yard slug UPY 640 (former GP50) came out of the North Little Rock, AR shops in 2004 having been converted to a slug. It displayed the NLR Centennial Logo (2004) on the rear (still visible) and the NLR city logo on the front until its "death". I have a just out of the shops photo from 2004 showing it still with the fan housings on the rear. They were later removed and covered with sheet metal. This slug served in numerous places before ending up in the scrap yard.

It wasn't long ago when the Dash 8's with their electric air compressors brought a new sound to the industry. I'm curious - the locomotives in this photograph are standing on a short segment of track but there seems no lead in from the outside.

torino72 Thanks for the info, a neat locomotive that's met it's end.

J Moller, the track here does connect at left to the CN Memphis Sub, but from this photo its hard to see because the track is so covered with dirt.
