The third track is used by narrow gauge (1000mm) trains from VLi and Rumo. Today, most of the narrow gauge traffic is from VLi.
The original track section between Campinas and Mairink, was in narrow gauge. When the new corridor was built, the original path was desactivated. So, the third track is still there, for narrow gauge trains.
