I think, even before this boulder, it was a "forever closed" line. Too steep and it didn't go anywhere that can't be reached by other tracks. Unless there was an online industry it was doomed.

The line was a serious short cut to Kansas City from the West coast when it connected with either the Rock Island or Kansas Pacific...I don"t remember any more. The ONLY reason Uncle Pete still owns the route is that it is afraid that the BN will take it over. Even though it is a steep rout it has always been a great "relief valve" if you will for the Moffit Road. Chances are that the rails will rust away and the ties will rot to ashes before the UP will abandon this once great mountain line of a long gone railroad I consider a better road the the UP will ever be.
