Though a lot of people think the first series ND5s are standard C36-7s, they aren't. The more rounded radiator wings to fit the Chinese loading gauge are obvious. It took me years to notice that they also have a shorter frame; they're somewhere between the length of a B36-7 and a standard C36-7. I gather that was necessary to reduce the weight to ~50000lb/axle.
