Fantastic to see these "older" photos that show "simpler" times. I love that there isn't any graffiti at all. One really nice memory for me, Doug. Thanks for sharing.

At the risk of being accused of being overly nostalgic, I'll say that there's a lot to look at--and a lot to like--in this photograph. Others may have taken a pass on this view; I'm glad you didn't. And thanks for your thorough caption, Doug.

Very interesting picture and informative caption, Doug. It's really refreshing to see more than two dozen colorful freight cars in service that have not been vandalized and tagged with disgusting graffiti. Miss those days. / George

This is the time period i model, and that i wish i could have lived in. Colorful freight cars can still be seen for many more years. You can run freight cars from the 50, and even 40's as there were still some around. Sometimes cars could be found from the 30's!! Some cars still had their roof walks, some didn't. Some still had high brake wheels, and some had them lowered. Some cars were patched out fallen flags. Some were fallen flags but kept rolling with their previous owner paint and all. Railroad yards and facilities were still dirty and filled with oil and cinders. Locomotives were mostly emd and some alco/ge. Intermodal was mostly all tofc.
