How I understand it, most METX F40PHM-2s make use of blended braking, where instead of separate dynamic and train brakes, they are combined to reduce stress on the brake shoes from going from 70mph to 0 in 45 seconds at every stop. At least, the F40PH-2s and -3s do, I think the newer PHMs had them, or they were added in during rebuilding.
