That third caboose (cabin car) back with the porthole window looks to be of Pennsylvania RR heritage. Shame to see the last of any particular type of equipment be destroyed. It's NOT like LIRR has a dire need for the money that the scrap will bring. As the wildlife people say, "Extinct is forever."

The porthole window caboose was a PRR built N-5, that became LIRR #2. It had been donated years ago to the Oyster Bay Railroad Museum. It wasn't a large commuter agency that was looking for a quick buck from scrap, it was a museum.
