Nice photo Mike! I love this one! I wouldn't be surprised if Union Pacific finally starts work on double-tracking this tunnel and making it double-track through the entire loop! They practically have it now, the only "bottleneck" is the tunnel itself. By the way - the next time you are at this location - see if you can't get a photo of the cross/memorial to the SP Crew who died on "The Loop" that is erected on the top of the hill in the center of "The Loop"! I've always been curious about that and if it's accessable by railfans or if the hill is "off limits" to "trespassers"?! Plus, you could take a photo from the top of the hill and get another perspective of this famous location! Good luck! Thank you again for sharing this photo. Too bad UP had to eventually "dump" these locomotives - they were monsters, but plagued with problems!

It has been double tracked but the one track runs outside this tunnel. I am surprised they didn't daylight the tunnel. I loved these brutes because of their massive power. Too bad they had problems.
