The blue raised fin on back end of loco, is that for aerodynamics? Does it settle down when traveling in reverse direction?

The blue fin is intended to match the height profile of the bilevel Surfliner cars which are normally used on this route. The new locomotives have been testing using the one set of single level equipment that still runs on the route.

They're for aerodynamic benefits with the Surfliner and CDTX double deck cars. They sure do look strange with single levels.
