Interesting - no complaints, looks good - and why shouldn't the owner advertise his brand. Certainly easier to say this about a locomotive built in the 1980's - one that has already been altered from its original appearance. Tastefully done. Thanks for sharing!

Why it's final excursion? Another steam engine down due to company disinterest?

They could lose those ears and it could be a naturalized American.

Well, if they don't intend to do the inspections, hopefully, they'll put the locomotives up for sale. It would be a shame to see a relatively young steam locomotive in running condition end up in a shed someplace.

Do you know what whistle it was wearing? I was curious if they put the Illinois Central Chime back on. Also on Facebook the central states posted that this engine's flue time was good until 2021, and that they were planning an excursion next spring.

I could only imagine the "final excursion" comment was related to the unfortunate fatality from the UP 844 train. The line of thought is that they will stop allowing excursion trains for some reason because someone was killed. This will not happen and IAIS would not do these upgrades or improvements just to shelve the unit.
