Great one Mitch. The 382 had a handmade whistle that was used until the engine had to go Roanoke for work. It would be replaced by a “regulation” whistle for its Roanoke trip then exchanged on return. It still exists but i’m not sure where. When I was there Strasburg’s fabricated “regulation” whistle didn’t have the correct timbre. I’m guessing the brass stock was too thin. The first locomotive I every remember seeing.
