It's tremendously sad. Lots of great memories in those cars over the last decade for me.

This sucks. I wonder if I will be able to ride the Coast Starlight tomorrow. That would be the only chance I have. Thanks for letting me know.

I remain hopeful private car owners will ( perhaps already are....) exploring ultimate acquisition followed by refurbishement & operations....I'm sure these gems will not head for the scrapypers. While the continued maintenance of those cars turned out to be too much for Amtrak to justify ( the are after all a quasi Federal entity and mainline operations of these cars simply is not on anymore...!! ), the required babysitting costs in private & limited operations might be sustainable. I've enjoyed my rides on those, both in SantaFe service as well as the Amtrak CoastStarlight era.
