I knew Mr. Markle first as a conductor in B&O (later MARC) Baltimore area commuter service, and saw him occasionally on Amtrak trains on the B&O. Funny guy, full of witty opinions, he spent his retirement years working the Western Maryland Scenic and occasionally the Potomac Eagle excursion trains.

It took a long time tor that 45-year B&O veteran to make peace with working on the former Western Maryland. He always called the WM a "scab" railroad, alluding to the railroad's hiring of non-union employees during a long strike, I believe in the 1950's.
