Lighting stripes on one of my favorite units. Love it.

I love photos like this. I was 15 years old, going to high school in Newark. I try to identify the autos. Here goes from left to right on the far side of the street. Year stated when I'm fairly sure:
'62 Chevy 4 door, ??, "59 or '60 Chevy 2 door, Rambler station wagon, '60 Olds?, ??, Ford station wagon?, '58 Desoto?, Ford Falcon?, '61 Caddy. Crossing the street looks like a mid '50's GM, probably an Olds. Disagreements welcome.

I agree, John. It's like the difference between N&W 611 and C&O 614. The 611 is terrific, but the 614 looks like it's built for work.

Great description...they do look mean and ready for business, and the lines of the NYC paint add to the feel. And those automobiles!!

Nice NYC picture. Don't feel alone, my father got invited by Uncle Sam to the east coast two years earlier. Thanks veterans!

Looking back at this classic image, it seems hard to believe that this scene was once replicated countless times per day, EVERY day.

Fantastic! The motive power, the livery and the location itself. Looks more like NYC than NYC looks today. Sweet shot, John!
