The BB67400 series (of which this unit is a part) numbered over 200 members and is a standard French diesel-electric developed from earlier BB67000's in the late 1960's. Rated at about 2400hp, they are powered by a medium-speed four stroke SEMT-Pielstick V16. They have monomotor bogies with a single truck-frame mounted DC traction motor driving two axles on each truck. Their alternators are equipped to provide head-end power to passenger trains. Many have been withdrawn and the class is now in its final days of service.
