The BB7282 is one of a class of 240 units built from 1976. Some 152 remain in service as of June 2. It is a four-axle 1500vdc electric making 5400hp but weighing just 84 tons. It has two monomotor bogies in which a single large truck-mounted DC traction motor drives both axles. The subseries of which BB7282 is a part is rated for 200kph (120mph); there are five subseries.
