What is the cross track? The angle with the Main is too severe for it to be a switch.

It's actually a siding. I think it served by the UP's Sterling local which runs from Sterling, IL to Rochelle, IL and back.

I guess the telephoto lens has totally changed the perspective as it makes it seem that the 'siding' is departing the Main at about a 40 degree angle.
