A very interesting photo. I might guess that some of the scrap steel from these locomotives went into the production of hopper cars in years ahead.

This one stings me in my heart. We re-trucked a number of these units at Decatur (IL) Locomotive Shop (Ex-Wabash) in 1986 due to traction motor/other damage from the 1985 EPIC flooding in Roanoke
