I've "heard thru the grapevine" that this "spur through the woods" was built to serve the former Grumman Aircraft plant ( note the remains of a security gate) in Calverton, and saw a massive amount of traffic during WWII. Regrettably in those days days, nobody DARED photograph the activity here, as interesting as it must have been. NICE to see the line in service again.

Unfortunately this place isn't what it once was, NYAR serves Eastern Fence. Grumman is long gone, the very little that remains is in Bethpage where their last F-14 Tomcat resides. The last bit of aircraft is now gone from Calverton. If my memory serves me correct, there was a skydiving company there up until a few years back that has since closed. The runway and adjacent lots that once saw aircraft are now littered with new cars from dealerships. Along with those cars are security guards who aren't some of the most railfan-friendly people.
