In fairness, the SDP40Fs were only "derailment prone" on railroads with lousy track, of which there were unfortunately many in the 1970s. The Santa Fe, for instance, never had any derailment troubles with them, despite having portions of their Chicago to California main ATS equipped and 90mph limited for passenger trains.
