Mr.Trub, As usual, fantastic photo. Thank you. Is it possible that locos #3 & 4 on the head-end would be ''neutral traction '' position ? As you point out, the first two would be quite sufficient to haul that consist up the grades,assisted as they are by the two rear-end pushers. It's possible the other locos are on ''transfer'' service, and simply ''carrying their own weight'' in neutral.

No, in such a case (which is/was seen quite often), all 4 locomotives are powering the train together, the locomotives are in multiple by one driver and the 20 traction motors are working apportioned.
