While an inconvenience to the commuters, removal of the café allows the esthetics of the magnificant Beaux Arts architecture to really stand out! This angle that the photographer used allows us to observe the scene below just like the centurion statue standing on the ledge nearby. A great shot!

Thank you for this series of photos, Matt. It is great to see this place cleaned up, cleared out and looking "brand spanking new." I took a tour of the place a few years ago and was told why those statues have shields in front of them. That is what is known as 'strategic placement' said our tour guide. Originally the centurions were much more of a conversation piece....I believe you can guess why. Again, thanks for the pics.
