I believe this is the area where the movie Duel was filmed in the early 70's. There are several scenes in the movie with SP freight trains and I recently read that commuter trains now ran on that line. I've always wanted to visit this area so I can travel the same roads that are seen in the movie. Been obsessed since I was a kid haha.

Yeah, several shots in that film you can see long Bakersfield trains going by. Must have been right before the Palmdale Cutoff was finished or something.

I saw some recent pictures of some of the filming locations and the tracks were gone in a few spots. I guess they rerouted that traffic to the cutoff?

Yeah, all those trains went to Taylor Yard and then out through the LA Basin. When SP built the yard in West Colton and the Palmdale cutoff all that traffic disappeared. Today normally only the Brooklyn and Lathrop Z's go up (plus the occasional "I-train") and the Vulcan rock train goes down.
