I had no idea it was that far. I put in directions to Whittier, AK from your photo location, (which Google Maps changed to Elliott Bay), and by land one of the suggested routes is 2,327 miles. They didn't offer a barge option via sea.

Peter, that may be because there are no passenger trains on this ferry.

I see a couple of loads of scrap, these are about the only loads we consistently send south. This barge can handle 52 cars and lots of containers and makes a weekly trip to Anchorage. Usually departing Seattle on Wednesday evenings for the 7 day voyage to Whittier, Alaska. Whittier is also served by the CN Aquatrain, which carries rail cars only, a max of 45, and has two switches on the deck of the barge. I have photographed the other end of his operation numerous times and hope to make it south some day for a similar shot. Thanks for posting
